Boranes - compounds of boron and hydrogen - are amazing chemicals. They don't occur naturally on Earth, which means that nature hasn't found a way to make them (unlike hydrocarbons, which it makes in bulk). Alfred Stock made the first boranes in 1912. Let us take you through their first century of research, filled with espionage, mysterious rocket fuel, semiconductors, microelectronics, and even hope for HIV/AIDS patients. Because boranes are relatively young compounds, they hold enormous scientific potential.
Join us on a journey of discovery in which the Czech Republic has played a key role. A secret scientific facility was set up just outside Prague, which became a strategic point in the Cold War.
A very exciting new development is the discovery of the borate laser, which is personally backed by our speaker and his international scientific team. He will accompany his scientific show with interesting experiments.
