Chemistry and biochemistry
Department of Biochemistry, NCBR, Department of Chemistry
The research fields in this domain include fundamental, material and synthetic chemistry, as well as research into biological macromolecules and metabolism. As examples, the Department of Biochemistry and the National Centre for Biomolecular Research focus on exploring the metabolism of microorganisms, mammals and plants; development and implementation of (bio)analytical methods; and investigation into structure-function relationships of proteins, nucleic acids and carbohydrates. Projects of the Department of Chemistry address innovative synthesis, characterisation and exploration of organic and inorganic compounds, including novel substances with potential medical usage, as well as substances suitable for the development of new advanced materials.
