This project aims to calibrate seismic data obtained from the lower-crustal rocks against strain. The Earth´s lower crust represents the weakest part of the lithosphere which is easily deformed and thus plays a key role during the orogenesis. The quantification of its deformation with the use of seismology would allow us better understanding of the evolution of orogens. We suggest a complex study of the deformational microstructures and elastic anizotropy of the rocks which were metamorphosed and deformed in the lower-crustal conditions. We propose the sampling of lower-crustal rocks from Variscan orogenic root zones of the Bohemian Massif which are the most suitable for structural analysis. Within these samples, the correlation of mineral phase changes, deformational microstructures and elastic properties will be carried out. Modelling of the anizotropy of the main rock-forming minerals will be based on microstructural analysis and EBSD measurements of preferred lattice orientation. This will a
