The main goal of this project is to design and synthesize a new class of triangle-like macrocyclic molecular building blocks for construction of 2D as well as 3D layers and arrays, respectively. Equilateral triangle sides are supposed to consist ofrod-li ke molecules based on bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane-1,3-diyl structural motif, which connect vertices bearing active sites (various ligand functionalities) for construction of supramolecular assemblies. The ligand functionality can be placed to the one,two or al l of three vertices of the triangle making possible construction of various supramolecular patterns. The proposed triangle-shaped molecules are designed with aromatic phenanthrene connectors at their vertices, which serve as 60° angle cornersconnected in their 3 and 6 positions by linear linkers.
