Podstatou projektu je vytvoření výzkumného centra, sdružujícího přední tuzemské instituce, které se zabývají studiem a ochranou přírody, krajiny a biodiverzity. Vzniklé centrum bude jednak řešit aktuální problémy, které se v krajině i ve specifických ekosystémech objevují, dále navrhovat management a konkrétní opatření, jež je třeba učinit, ale zároveň si klade za cíl formulovat nové systémy monitoringu a hodnocení jevů a procesů definujících současnou podobu krajiny, ekosystémů a biodiverzity.
