Metabolites are intermediate or terminal products of cell biochemical pathways. Changes in metabolites reflect the state of cell physiology, including proliferation or differentiation. The proposed project will use one-step chemical derivatization for mass spectrometry detection of different metabolites to reveal metabolic states of pluripotent stem cells and derivatives in standard 2D (in solution derivatization) and advanced 3D cultures of stem cells and derivatives (on tissue derivatization).
